2005 recon 250
#1
I was pulling a swisher mower on a very hot day & overheated my air cooled honda 250. I will put a new piston & cylinder on it.
I would like to put an after market fan on it. Has anyone done this & what fan would you recommend ? Thanks Dan

Do Recons come with a oil cooler from stock? If not that would be a good add on option. Even a oil cooler with out a fan assist option still makes a big difference.
Another help is use full synthetic motorcycle grade oil it holds up to high heat better then conventional or blends. Link below explains why.

I had a Recon once, I'm pretty sure they have no oil cooler. They don't even have an oil filter. Makes for an easy oil change but you better change it pretty often. Pulling a mower sounds like a pretty tall task for a little Recon. A heavy load at slow speeds for a little air cooled engine is not really recommended. Sounds like a job more suited to a bigger, more powerful machine like a Foreman or Rubicon.

Better find out why it,s over heating. My 250 Moto4 never over heated and I worked it pretty hard on some hot days and it never even had a oil cooler.
My 350 Big bear had a oil cooler put no fan option yet never over heated also. Your problem may be somewhere else like the oil delivery or jetting.
If you do add a fan on your oil cooler Spal makes them for ATV https://webstore.spalusa.com/en-us/p...rcycleatv.aspx remember they come in puller and pushers. You may just want a toggle switch to turn it on and off. It just needs a 12v source from the ATV.
A thermal switch like most ATV use to operate it would be a lot more work.
