1998 Polaris xplorer
#1
hi I have a 1998 Polaris xplorer that is smoking and not running very well. Needs choke to start and will not idle on its own. At higher speeds it seams to run very good. Any help would be appreciated thanks Andy.

On old 2 strokes always do a compression check to see where you stand. Must have around 115-120psi or more to run right.Even better if you can do a leak down test also to see if crank seals, gaskets may be leaking. If you have to choke it to get it to run, could be stopped up jets or a float needle sticking. If you take a carb apart just rebuild it as cleaning one may not always help. Kits are cheap for these, plenty on ebay,amazon,etc.http://www.ebay.com/itm/CARB-REBUILD-REPAIR-KIT-POLARIS-XPLORER-400-4WD-1997-1998-1999-2000-2001-2002-/270463779773?hash=item3ef8e5c3bd&vxp=mtr
