Default new tire/rim size on my 400 HO

I'm upgrading my rims/tires on my 2008 Sportsman 400HO. I see that my original rims were 10X8's with a 4/156 pattern.. I'm looking to add some size/lift. These come in 12 or 14"

would the 14's be too much rim for my wheel well? should i just get the 12's? or will the tire size i choose be more of a determining factor? I'm thinking 26's.

if I remember correctly on our bike we went up 2 sizes from oem w/ 12' rims and it was close to rubbing. we used swamp lites and they worked great for the wife

This is the smaller mid chassis 455 Sportsman with the Hawkeye chassis with 24" tires? They did not come with standard 12" rims?

Here is a good site to get the right 12 or 14 inch rims with proper offset and bolt pattern . ATV Tire and Wheel Application Chart : ATV Tires Free Shipping : ATV Wheels : Mud-Throwers.com

I don't like the 14" vs 12" rims because the tires will have less side wall depth allowing rocks to dent the rims due to 2" of less tire cushioning.
Low profile tires belong on the street not on rocky trails.

My mid chassis 350 Grizzly/Bruin handled 26x11-12 rear and 26x9-12 Maxxis Zillas with a tall aggressive 1.19" mud lug with room to spare.

I agree on sticking with 12" rims unless you ride all hard pack/roads. 14's look cool but much better ride over the lumps and bumps with 12's.
