Just sounds like he needs to suck it up and get the updated flywheel if his magnets are loose before it trashes a stator. 96 and 97 models had exposed magnets and once the bond is gone,no way to glue them and be sure they will hold. Had a customer that worked at 3M and said he was privy to the best epoxy around when I told him he needed to replace his flywheel. He came in first to talk about finding his magnets were loose.I told him about the problem they had and the updated flywheels. 3 weeks later he came back in and ordered a new stator and updated magnet enclosed flywheel when his epoxy failed and trashed his stator.http://www.ebay.com/itm/1996-1997-PO...dWFu7Q&vxp=mtr

That's pretty much the same thing I told him. I think he's about ready to purchase but was unsure of "updated" flywheel part numbers, the type in which the magnets cannot be seen....unlike his original flywheel. I will send him the ebay link that you provided.

The one on ebay for $389 was just a quick link I found. Partzilla has the 3086857 flywheel for 335 bucks. About as cheap as I've found on a new one.

I sent him a link to Partzilla...$335 as you mentioned. And thats where I purchase most of my OEM parts. I get a dealer discount at carolia cycle but its still not as good as Partzilla....

Thanks for taking the time to help....
