Default 2000 SP 500 cv joint replacement

I need to replace the front CV joint. Currently the strut is out and the CV boot is off. The CV joint itself blew up and the retaining clip on the end of the axle is in little pieces. Whats left of the CV will move freely on the axle but it wont slide off. Can whats left of the CV be removed with a few strategic hammers blows or is a 3 jaw puller required?

Bead the devil out of it with a hammer and should come off. Check that the spines are still ok. If not, replace the driveshaft.

Check the shaft splines and circlip area close for any damage.
