Eton Rascal 40cc

I was given a rascal 40cc quad a while ago. The recoil was missing the guts to it. I ordered one off of ebay and I went to install it but the bolt pattern was a bit to big and it did look like it would mesh with the notches on the engine side. Any suggestions?
