Well, I ride by myself most of the time and one thing I can tell you is to with some sense. I rolled mine before and the only thing that I could think of was how my dad was going to kill me, then with all the adrenaline I pushed it over by myself, and then I drove into a 4 foot deep hole.
Also, put a first aid kit in your storage comp.
slime might come in handy, slime them up before you leave.
you might want to consider a cell phone and depending on how far you are going before refueling take a gas can, preferably full.

If you insist on riding solo, ride with common sense. Ride cautious, avoiding any mud holes you are not familiar with. They can surprise you and get you stuck. Riding agressive alone is dangerous. Jumping and "racing" alone can get you into trouble quick when there's no one there to help. Riding alone is never a good idea, so just be careful. We all want you to return in safe and sound, but none more than your mom.

I WOULD HAVE TO RECOMMEND A COME-A-LONG AND SOME TOW STRAPS, IN CASE YOU ROLL IT OR BECOME STUCK. IF YOU ARE UNFIMALIAR WITH THE TRAILS, A GPS. ALSO MAYBE TREAT IT LIKE HUNTING TAKE ALONG A SURVIVAL KIT INCASE YOU GET HURT (FOOD, WATER, LAYERS OF CLOTHES AND FIRE STARTING DEVICES) ALL THIS DONT WEIGH MUCH BUT IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE. AND ONE LAST THING TELL SOMEONE WHERE YOU ARE GOING TO BE, IF THEY ARE NOT SURE OF LOCATION LEAVE THEM A MAP AND MARK THE AREA FOR THEM.

Some stores call them a ratcheting pully, some come-a-longs, or whatever, they can vary in price from like $10-$50, I want to get one soon. I can't remember the site that showed pictures of them...someone else know of a site with pics to show jerrysonoma??

When I ride alone when I know I might get stuck, I carry a shovel, They help big time.

I have always known them as come alongs, they have a hook at one end and a length of steel rope at the other also with a hook, it also has a rachet handle so you can manually "winch" it your self. The reason I would recommend this over an electric winch is that you can attach it to almost any point on your bike "in case you have rolled it and need to winch from the side" it is also alot cheeper and you can get a couple. If you also decide to go to the local track you can leave them at home or use them around the house. I accidently ran my scram a little to fast up into the bed of my truck and almost through the back window. anyhow I bent my bed pretty good and with a little help from the scram as an anchor i used the come along to pull my bed away from my cab. You can use them for alot of things not always just the atv.

Try here:
www.harborfreight.com
for the come-along. Item #30329
H. F. has them on special for $9.97 in the "Tool Disposal Notice" flyer # 1909 through 14 May 2001.

I just checked them out at harbor freight and i would not purchase the $9.99 come along it only has 44" of rope get the $13.99 one it has 10' of rope. you will also want one that is at least twice the weight capicity of your machine. If stuck in the mud you will have the suction of the mud plus the weight of the machine. also make sure you get some tow straps this will extend the length if you need, they are light weight and you can get them for atv's for about $15
