Default Newly rebuild trying to fill antifreeze

Machine is 1994 500L
Just rebuilt the engine. Have started it and ran for a few seconds ok
Now we tried to fill antifreeze but not much is going in.
Is there a trick?
I did search but did not find this answer.

Thermostat will slightly slow down the coolant return to the radiator until warm, but best to raise the machine at the front until the tires are off the ground to aid in bleeding air pockets.Have to keep the engine running and watch the radiator level and top it off as the level goes down.Once the fan kicks on coolant should drop significantly. Keep topping off the radiator and let the fan cycle on and off several times. May take a while to purge all the air pockets. Squeezing hoses can help also as the manual instructs. If you can't get the coolant to flow, then could be an impeller problem, frozen thermostat or a radiator clogged with dirt and mud can cause problems also.

Worked good. I see good coolant flow in the radiator.
Fan did not come on but it is cold, we are having a snow storm tonight. And only ran it for about 5 minutes.

When the weather clears up get it hot enough to cycle the fan on and off several times with the radiator cap off. That should help get rid on any trapped air. Top off the coolant in the radiator and recovery bottle. Then take it for a short test ride to make sure it doesn't over heat.
