Default Buying Quad privately from out-of-state

Hi,

I am interested in purchasing a quad from a guy in Delaware. I live in PA. The seller has a title and is willing to draw up a bill of sale. Is this enough for me to get the quad registered in PA? Do I need the title transferred into my name? Notary required?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

John

All I've ever needed was a bill of sale with the VIN # , name of seller, date, amount sold for and my name as the buyer. I'm in Maine, so you should check with your city hall or DMV. Newest ATV that I've bought was a 2008, no one ever asked for a title, just a bill of sale. Notarized would be good, if you can. As far as a title, he will sign it over to you on the back side. When you get to Pa, you'll surrender to DMV and apply for a PA title. Of course, every step requires a little money, to help grease the wheels of government.

Thank you hydrex! The seller insisted that the only thing that needed to be done was to sign my name on the title. I am requesting a bill of sale with VIN #, photocopy of his drivers license. I am hoping this is suffice to register it in my state. If only a notary was open on a Sunday...

A title is more important than a bill of sale. It doesn't matter that the atv is titled in a different state, once you change the title to your name it will be titled in the state you live in. The title should be all you will need.

A title proves ownership, thats what the dmv wants. Just like buying a car. A biil of sale is ok too but not an official document.

Title is best thing to have. I think every state will recognize a title that has been signed over to you.
