1999 scrambler 500 help please

This may be a stupid question, but where does the gas tank ventallation hose go? I currently have it going up to the handle bars, but when it gets real shaky gas starts to leak out. Anyone know? Thanks in advance!

Tank vent hose goes into the hollow steering post.
