Here is the Mod I came up with for the airbox. It is simple yet
effective and not the least bit necessary if you don't ride in wet
conditions much.

1. Purchase a 1.25 inch T-section of PVC pipe.
2. Cut your snorkel down to where the bottom of the T matches up to the
mouth of the snorkel.
3. Use some black RTV and glue them together.
4. After it sets use 2-3 beads of RTV around the outside.
5. Give it 24 hours to set up.
6. Carefully work your foam support over the PVC, it can be done just be
careful.
7. When you are done you have a bigger air inlet and mud and dirt can't
slide into the air intake.
8. I don't run the factory Sock (Pre-filter) but you could put one on both
sides in dusty conditions and still have better air flow than stock.

There are numerous variations to this theme. You could add an extension to
the bottom of the T and bring the top of the T up just underneath your
plastic. Plug both ends of the T (these stick out to the side by the way)
and drill some large holes in the top of the T so you are drawing cooler air
from around the top of the gas tank. If positioned correctly these holes
would be extremely well protected. Just tape the T in there to make sure it
will fit with the seat on before going to all this trouble. This can be adapted to other snorkels too. I plan on putting a variation on my 400.

Does the T just sit there under the seat? Also have you seen the airbox lid on the Xpedition425? I wonder if you could make it work on that model. I recently went to Muenster and had some mud in my airbox(though not enough to hurt anything). I seem to get it from splashing through small puddles. If I go through deep water/mud slowly I dont have that problem. I would like to see a picture of your mod if you have a way so send it.
Thanks

It is permanently attached to the top of the plastic snorkel with RTV. Or semi-permanent, I could cut it off if I desired. It sits right up against the gas tank pretty much in the same place as the old sock, maybe a little lower. I just did the same thing to my 400 Scrambler tonight. It was easier since it uses a rubber boot. I cut off an inch and the forced the bottom portion a 1.5 inch PVC T into it. The rubber holds it nice and snug, I haven't even bothered to RTV it. Dosen't look like it is going to need it. Couldn't get the foam support on this one but it really doesn't need it. I haven't seen the 425 intake but I can't imagine the idea would be too hard to adapt to your system. I will try to get a picture.

The airbox is more forward toward the gas tank on the Xped425. The snorkel is very short and not at all round, more of a sweeping rectangle. Airbox is right up by the gastank and the lid is a bit of a squeeze to put back on. The box itself looks just my friends SP500 just diff lid and location. I dont think mine has the sock you mention either. Get back to me if you have any ideas
thanks
