Default Just bought an 08 sportsman 400 but have a question

I bought an 08 sportsman 400 that's been sitting for a few years. The previous owners told me it needs a battery and voltage regulator. I put a battery in and will pull start. I'll get to the elec. start later. How can I check the voltage regulator?

Now onto the electric start. I'm familiar with the 99-00 polaris starters. Are they pretty much the same?

Need the battery for the red power lead on the regulator. Check the yellows coming from the stator leading to the regulator. Should be some resistance between each one with no yellow shorting to ground. If that checks out get a cheap regulator on ebay or amazon.

To check the regulator here's a test that can help.
The starter is the same one used on the 325,330,425 and 500 engines. https://www.dbelectrical.com/starter...ris/sportsman/
