Default 2004.5 Sportsman 500 HO bogging down and sputtering when riding through water

Today is the first time my bike has done this. When riding through water the engine boggs down and sputters under moderate to heavy load. Water level is not very high, only halfway up boots or so. As soon as it's back in shallow water or dry land, no issues. Has anyone had this issue? Intake is never close to being submerged, air box is on, clean filter. Please help!

Check the plug cap and wire for any breaks that could be causing spark to short because of water, plus water can splash up on electronics under the front panel.Clean connections going to the cdi, coil, etc and use some electrical grease. Also water can get through the recoil housing to the pick up coil and stator or even through the pull rope area. Drain plug on the bottom of the recoil housing to check for water or simpler to just pull the recoil, clean things up with contact cleaner and silicone the recoil housing back on.Silicone the rope handle also. Easy to break loose if you ever need it.
