Default 02 sportsman 700 won't idle right

It started running rough one night and gradually got worse. I have to feather the throttle to get it to idle. At first it would run forward like I was going backwards with out pushing the button and now it just sputter the whole time. I rebuilt carb and I unplugged gauges got new battery. But nothing has changed. I feel it may be an electrical deal but I have no clue. Please help

If the ignition hasn't been changed sounds like the Ducati system is failing. Updated #2202602 Kokusan ignition kits solve this. Check around as it's pretty expensive. DON'T buy used Ducati parts on ebay. One other kit out there that's cheaper and uses the Ducati lighting coil for an ignition source. Already had two people posted that had problems with these. Here's the best video on this and what all is involved.

I watched parts of the video. But it looks like a lot of work. Is there a way I can check it to see if this is problemwithout dismantling the whole thing at this time?

Another quick question I looked up the pricing on the part kit you posted and that was about 600.00. I also looked at dennis kirk and they had just the stator for about 200.00. It was a moose stator. Do you think just the 200. Dollar part would work?

Easy way to tell is to pop the front panel and see if you have the combo cdi/coil pack(Ducati) or the sparate cdi and coil(Kokusan). Yes you can go the Moose stator route(if that's the problem area) and see how long before the coil pack gives out.And they will. The Ducati coil pack for some reason is still available(the Ducati stator isn't),but the cost is right at 300 bucks itself. 4010696 CONTROLLER-IGNITION,680 Add the cost of the Moose stator and you can could have completely done away with the Ducati system for the same price or close to the Kokusan kit. I went back and forth on the changing out stators then coil packs would fail. More cost to the customer. Then Polaris finally offered the updated kit that solved all the problems. The choice is yours on this one,but after going through what I did with Ducati ignitions,I personally wouldn't miss match this system with a good chance of spending more money.I'd get the Kokusan kit and be done with it.The kit also changes the ignition to dci which means quicker starts, less fuel consumption, better throttle response in most cases and whole lot more reliable.
