Always start at the battery and connections first. Even a new battery or one that shows good voltage can have voltage drop like a rock under a load. Have it load tested to be sure,if it passes then check that power is going through the solenoid to the starter.Check for corrosion on the solenoid and starter cable. You can even jump the solenoid posts to see if the starter engages. After you find the problem and have it running make sure the regulator is charging 14 volts back to the battery.Plus you can do a load test with just a meter. This is a good article on batteries.

Crank it up and check dc voltage with a meter on the battery terminals. Should be between 14-14.5 volts at an idle or slightly higher rpms if the regulator is ok.This model, if a 2005 carb model, has the ecm that handles charging. Hope it's ok..
