So to test my no spark condition, I have disconnected the kill switch wire (Black from cdi), tested 98.1 ohms and no grounds on pulse coil, stator tested about 13.8 ohms (red to black/red if I remember correctly), no grounds on stator. Stator resistance seems low, should I go ahead and plan on pulling it? IGN coil to ground tested .02 ohms.... have not yet tested primary and secondaries on ign coil. What other steps can I check and are there and ignition system fuses?

 

Specs on 99 500 shows red to green 3.2 ohms, black/red to green 446 ohms. If either are way off especially the black/red to green,stator would need to be replaced.

 

Red to green measure 2.8 ohms, black/red to green tested 14.4 ohms, sounds like a stator replacement is in my future

 

Yep.. Exciter coil.

 

Ok OPT, still no spark after exciter and trigger coil replacement, plan B?

 

If your findings are correct,the exciter coil was bad. I've replaced a lot of stators for that reason. Also check the resistance on the ignition coil. Primary should be around 0.3 ohms reading on the coil tab to ground. Secondary,coil tab to plug wire 6.3k ohms. Pull the plug cap off and see if you spark with the bare wire against the cylinder. Doesn't happen often but the plug cap resistor can short out causing loss of spark. If the coil checks out ok,possibly a bad cdi also. Only way to tell on that is to have a "known" good one as the manuals say.

 

I went back and rechecked my work......somebody (not going to point fingers) didn’t plug in the pick up coil...... so, I learned something tonight, the pick up is essential for the system to work ����. Anyway, thanks so much for your help, once I get my fuel delivery issue settled I “should” be good to go.

 

I went back and checked my work, during my inspection I found the pick up coil wasn’t connected to the CDI (I don’t know who forgot that step). Once it was connected I have a bright hot spark! Now it’s on to fuel delivery....may have a clogged fuel switch or fuel pump may be bad. Thanks for your help!!!

 

Yep,gotta have that little pickup coil.. You can pull the fuel line from the back of the fuel valve that goes to the pump inlet and check if the fuel valve is flowing fuel ok in the on and reserve position. If it is flowing ok, hook the line back up,pull the fuel line from the carb and crank the engine over. Should be a steady stream of fuel if the pump is ok.If it's not pumps are cheap on amazon,ebay.
