Default issue with 2003 polaris sportsman 700 twin battery

The battery drains if the fans come on or even when not just not a noticeable difference, the stator we bought used from ebay with a flywheel both from a 2002 they should be fine. the battery is a cheap 40 dollar battery from walmart, the fourwheeler really loses alot of power when the battery is low. i done the voltage test and off it gets about 12.1 at idle(on) gets the same i checked the front and cables where the stator leads and a black box with 2 yellow wires and 1 red had the red wire unplugged i believe this is the voltage regulator but someone told me it was the exciter. after i done that i checked if the battery light would come on when the fan comes on and it didnt but the voltage test didn't change, so same results.

If it still has the Ducati ignition system you'll have problems. 2002- to early 2004 700 had this system. Replaced by the Kokusan #2202602 kit. Check around on price as it varies. Around $500.

I guess whatever was unplugged in the front was the issue i see no problems with the battery drain anymore but do you think the cheap battery will be good enough to support a winch or should i get the suggested battery for the four wheeler first

As long as it's a 30 amp battery that's called for fine. If not get the right one. Any more electrical problems DON'T buy any more used Ducati parts on ebay that will eventually fail. Save your money for the Kokusan kit.

I would start putting away money for that Kokusan kit now. By the time it fails you may have enough money set aside to pay for it. I've had good luck with OEM YUASA batteries, but a lot of people save money getting Walmart batteries. There are lots of other choices in batteries too.

what do you mean "by the time it fails" its got 6000 miles on it, im really not sure what all has been done to this four wheeler, it may have a different ignition kit not really sure, i do know its had some issues in the past where my dad would take it to a shop or something. but nothing huge to my knowledge.

6,000 miles isn't a lot for a 15 year old ATV. If it still has the Ducati ignition it will crap out sooner or later. If it's already been changed you should be okay.

That's just the start when you by used Ducati parts. You've gotten more out of than a lot of people at 6000 miles. Most quit before that.

You said you bought a used flywheel and stator from a 2002 700. If the ignition had been changed, don't think the stator wouldn't have worked with an updated Kokusan cdi and coil. The Ducati ignition has the coil/cdi as one unit.
