Default Electric gremlin

I think I did something to the machine, 2015 570 sportsman.

A few weeks ago getting ready for a ride and airing up tires, I have a portable VIAIR compressor and hooked that to the battery terminals. When switched on it drew hard but did not turn over, then there was a "pop" which I thought was the battery clip on the compressor slipping off the terminal and snapping closed. We rode the entire day and part of the next with no issues.

I have a small battery tender with a pigtail wired on the machine and hooked that up a few days ago just because. Normally it will charge, solid red light on the charger, then go to a flashing green when charged. I went to look at it the next day and it was still solid red, so let it go another day, still red. Disconnected it and the machine would not start, voltage was around 6 and the electrolyte was dry.

Got a brand new battery installed and drove around a little, nothing serious yet. Charging voltage at idle is 14.6, 12.6 right now when off. But still the little trickle charger will not shut down, it will on other batteries.

What did I do?

Sorry for the long winded question.

Probably shorted out the battery tender and the battery. Or the battery may have been close to needing replacement when all this happened. If it's running ok,charging ok,then try another battery tender and see if it works ok.

It seems to run fine now but have not gone for a real long ride. I can put a regular charger on it and see. The question i still have is why the tender will shut down on a different battery but not the one in the polaris. Even though it is fully charged.

Ok then I'd ride it a little more and recheck with the tender to see if it charges and then floats. If it doesn't you may have a parasitic drain. https://www.batterystuff.com/kb/arti...itic-load.html
