I am currently looking for a new ATV and have narrowed my choices down to three machines.

I was wondering what the gas milleage or basically how many hours can these quads run on a tank of gas?

By looking at specs, the Sport (2x4 Scrambler 400L) has the largest tank at 4 gallons, the Banshee comes in second with 3.2 gallons, and the 400ex comes in third with 2.6 gallons. Therefore I would say the Sport can go the longest on a tank of gas but tank capacity does not tell the whole story.

Of course it depends on what type of riding you are doing. Flat open doesnt get you as far as poking along of course. My Sport could go around 40-45 miles on a tank. That was stock.

huh?????? i am very confused here. i know nothing about gas milage on quads. i never thought about checking it because i never owned a machine with a odometer on it. cthorpe... you say 40, to 45 miles on a full tank? for some reason that just doesn't seem right. how can a 400cc engine get 10 miles to a gallon? i know i have filled my LT250r and rode for like 5, 6 hours and made it home without hitting reserve. i would have to guess the tank is around 3 gallons. i would have to say at the very minimum, i would think, just a guess that within 5, 6 hours i would travel at least 50 miles. maybe i am wrong. like i said, i never had an odometer, so... can anyone give any information on this. ruoghly much gas milage does the average 2 stroke get? i would imagine 4 stroke being a bit better on gas.

I am guesstimating based on my run at Cochranton last year. I rode with a couple Sportsmans and they of course had odometers. The trail was about 35 miles and when we were finished i figured i had maybe enough in my tank for 10 more miles. It was a guess but i can tell you that i definately had no more than 15 miles left. So maybe 45-50 miles at most. But it was also pretty tough riding. CT

I put on alot of miles on my 98 500 sportmans (3100+) and I consistantly switch over to reserve at about 130 miles or so. The reserve is then good for about 10 or 12 miles. Up here where I live and play in Canada it can be a long walk out to the nearest gas station and the first thing I do when I fill up is set my trip odometer. Now with that being said if you want the big bikes you have to accept the poorer mileage but it's worth it!!! Good luck.
