Default HELP!!!! 2001 Kawasaki Lakota 300 won’t start

I have a Kawasaki Lakota 300 that I’ve been trying to get running ever since I got it. I’ve tried everything to my knowledge but still no start. Every time I try and start it (I use a wire from positive end of battery straight to starter motor) and it will just crank over forever. I have got a new piston and bored out the cylinder. I have about 90 psi out of the cylinder. And sometimes fuel will pour out of the exhaust but that’s kind of rare. I have no clue what’s wrong and have no idea how to fix it, please any ideas will be much appreciated.

First thing is to check if you are getting a spark at the plug. As you are not using the start button, I guess there must be an electrical fault, and Lakotas are DC ignition, so need battery power to produce a spark. You should get over 90psi on a re-bored cylinder too, but if everything else was right, it should start OK on 90 psi.

Right, so as you took the cam chain off, have you checked that you got the timing right? Did you check that the T mark on the flywheel was actually TDC by the piston when you had the head off? Did you set the valve clearances at TDC on the Compression stroke?

I have the valves set at intake; .13mm exhaust .18mm and I have it timed properly lf300 mark pointing at top mark on head while the T is line up on the hole on the crank

And the T mark matches the piston being at Top Dead Centre? If it is, and you have a spark, the problem has to be the carb.

Shouldn’t it still start though with starting fluid even if the carburetor is bad

Not if it is already getting too much fuel, or very little. The mixture has to be within a narrow margin of "just right" for an engine to fire at all. Have you checked the T mark against TDC yet?

Yes the engine is at TDC when the T mark is in the viewing hole

If sometimes fuel will pour out of the exhaust, you have a carb problem.
