I am new to the forum. I have a 2014 Honda 250 that my son uses and I have been on the lookout for an older cheaper quad to join him in the woods out at my Dad's property in Upstate NY.
I just bought a 97 Suzuki Quadrunner 500 for a steal on craigslist. Previous owner was having trouble starting it. I opened the oil fill and gas started pouring out. Prev owner and I pulled the drain plug and the oil gas mixture drained out as well as the remaining contents of the fuel tank besides the reserve.I figured it was a stuck float so I gave it some taps. I had brought oil in case it was low so I filled it to the line in the little window and we gave it another go. It started right up, ran clean no smoke for about 3 minutes then started putting out some mild then heavy white smoke, then shut off at idle and wouldn't restart. That was good enough for me, I took it home. It wasn't wanting to fire right up when I got it home. and I figured it had taken enoughg abuse for one day so I cleaned it up a little and pushed it into my garage.
Just reaching out to see if anyone has any precautions and/or suggestions on where to proceed from here. Thanks in advance!
