Default Oem vs after market

So I love my 2016 Polaris sportsman 450ho. Never ride it as often as I like but when I do I love it.

What brings me to the forum is how much it cost to get these things worked on! I've been doing my own repairs and maintenance since I bought the machine. Youtube can only help so much. I need advice.

I recently replaced a rear CV axel. The boot ripped, got twisted and was making a lot of noise. I bought an after market niche brand part. The replacement job went smooth, no problems and I saved a ton of money...

However. After about a month of occasional riding and use around the yard I went for a serious ride. On said ride hit the throttle on a bump in the trail and was trying to catch a little air. Nothing to crazy I'm in my 40s! However the CV axel must have pulled out of the gearbox housing. My machine instantly got squirrelly. Thinking it mush have been the gravel I stopped, put it in 4x4 and continued on my ride, but something was wrong. So I stopped and gave it an examination. The CV axel I replaced had pulled out of the gear box on the back.

I tried to push it back in but was not able to get a good seat. So I limped it home. When I got home I hit the garage and had a look at what I did to my baby. The CV axel pulled out of the transmission gearbox. So that hole full of splines appears to have gotten a little chewed up on the outer edge. It doesn't look to messes up, but has me concerned. I have no idea how to repair that damage. I. Also wondering as to why the axel pulled out? It was seated in there great. It was the part suggested for my model of atv. Is the after market part not exactly the same as the oem. It looked the same. I have another CV axel but before I install it I want to be sure that those messes up teeth aren't going to be a huge problem. I don't want to bring it to the dealer to fix, I need advice. Thanks for all the help.

Hello, sorry to say but it sounds to me like you didnt seat the axle all the way. They can be stubborn. Check the install by tugging on it a little to see if it is locked in. I have had issues myself. i dont buy oem parts often and have used quite a few of aftermarket axles. My RZR 900 trail liked to destroy rear axles. My suggestion is to clean the teeth and install your axle. I keep a couple spare boots at the garage for repairs.
Good luck
Dave
