2002 Polaris sportsman 700 not starting backfires
#1
Hi new to the form.
. I have an 2002 Polaris sportsman 700 carburetor. The bike was running fine just starting losing power then stalled and wont start. The bike has spark on both cylinders just cranks and doesn't start and then after a few tries of starting it just backfires. I tried spraying some starter fluid and still dosen't start. It doesn't even fire and stall with the fluid.
Any help in this matter is appreciated

Hi thanks for your response. Someone else also said that the cam lobe wore down and throws the timing off. What is crazy is the bike was running and stalled and wont start. Iam not sure if was a problem with the ducati ignition or the cam lobes were down because the bike still has spark.

Do you want to go somewhere local or are you willing to ship the engine?

If I was shipping an engine to be rebuilt I would send it to Todd Kerby at (972) 896-1002. His website is https://www.polarisatvrepair.com/
Please note I have not used his services but have talked to him a couple of times on issues I had and he was very helpful. He is well known for doing high quality rebuilds.
A rebuild for a 700 is not cheap so it might pay to talk to him first because you might not need a full rebuild to get your engine running again. I would imagine the costs would be significantly less for just a cam change. But if you do go for a full rebuild he does turn your 700 into an 800 which is cool. Just call him to get the process started. He is incredibly knowledgeable, responsive, and will help you troubleshoot.
Good luck and please keep us posted on how it turns out.
