Default 02 Polaris Sportsman 500 ho Freedom Edition question about on demand Drive

Okay so I got this four wheeler for free from a friend and I've done a lot of work on it because you know it was free and it was also full of water fun right so I've got most of the engine done and other miscellaneous stuff but my question is how does the 4-wheel drive or on demand Drive work when front tires are on the ground and back tires are not I can spin the back tires and the front tires attempt to move probably because lack of grease in Forever but then do not move but the CV shafts going to both front tires left and right move and the tires do not and this is all happening with out a battery or the four wheeler running. When the wheeler is up off all tires and in gear and started with no battery in it front tires will spin without all wheel drive switch on probably because the tires have not been greased meaning all of the joints that's why they spend so I bet that if I tried to stop the front tires I probably could maybe I don't know it's all kind of confusing to me I changed the front gear case or differential case fluid whatever you may call it but upon further realization I noticed that there are front hubs so I do not know if anything can operate without a battery in it while the 4-wheeler is running so I do not know if it is working or not I just would like an explanation on how a 02 Sportsman 500 HO Freedom Edition on demand Drive works from the front diff to the hubs

There are electro magnets in the hubs that need power to operate. They hold the Hilliard clutch in place which causes the hubs to engage when the rears spin faster than the fronts. The hubs take a specific fluid.

So the front diff is pretty much just too redirect the drive shaft to two cv axels

btw you the correct Polaris hub oil in the hubs if you want them to work. do not use anything but for best results. there is not grease in them or the front end

The front driveshafts are constantly spinning. The front hubs operate on 12volts. When 12 volts is supplied the hubs engage and power the front wheels. When on a stand with all four wheels off the ground the front tires would likely turn with the rear tires regardless of 4x4 switch position.
