Default 1998 TRX300 no spark

First of all thank you guys for your help. Ok guys I’m going crazy here and I’m pretty sure the CDI boxes I have bought can’t all be bad....

long story short I picked this bike up for 300 bucks. Was serviced every year until last year when it stopped running for the farmer...

this is the weird part.... this this has been pretty well hacked together.... they removed the original key and start button and put in a what seems like a 4 post car a ignition switch where you turn the key to start it. They have about 6 or so wires twisted together and have an eye crimped on the end to put that on the ignition post of the switch.

I have not had it running yet but have got it to fire for a second. After trouble shooting I put a new aftermarket CDI box on it and since the coil was cheap I bought that and a spark plug as well. Put it all together I had great spark... put the tank back on and turn the gas on and it fired for a second and then now I have no spark. After check everything again I thought the CDI was faulty so I ordered another one but a different brand. Same thing. I had great spark. Put the plug back in and it fired for a second then died. And again no spark after that.... so now I try another CDI thinking maybe I Fried then some how. I have spark but I am not putting the plug back in yet until I figure it why this is happening. Can I fry a CDI box like that? Should I check anything else.

it just doesn’t make since why I have spark then it fires up for a second then no more spark....
