how many horsies out of a pipe, filter, clutch kit....
#1
as you may know by previous posting, i test rode a scrambler 500 the other day. very nice. however, the 400 is what i am getting. getting it the end of the month. now from what i was told, the 400 is very tame out of the box. how tame? will i be satisfied with it being stock for a while until i get enough $ to do mods? even when i do modify it, i probably will just do pipe, clutch kit, filter, jetting. will this unleash the animal in the 400? roughly how many horsies can i get out of those mods? i know some of you people are probably sick of me always posting stuff on here about a quad i have yet to even buy. sorry, i can't help it, i am just all exceited over it. i find myself day dreaming several times day about it
the test ride didn't help either. well, the loan is approved, but i have to go to school for two weeks, so i guess it will be the end of the month before i get it. can't wait

Bigdevil,
You should get around 44-46 horspower out of it with a good mid range pipe and silencer combo. Maybe even a few more with a top end pipe. Do yourself a favor, if you do get the top end pipe, invest in a Weisco piston. It seems that if you are going to be running at 7000 rpm or over with the top end pipe, the piston will eventually grenade itself. I've had two midrange pipes since I've had my Sport(two years) and it's still running strong.
When you consider that the stock Sport/Scrambler 400s are running at 5800 rpm, adding 1400 more rpms would really take a toll on the piston. This is a lot less so with the midrange pipe which runs at 6600 to 6800 rpm. It's best to stick with a midrange pipe unless you have a lot of money to play with.
