i recently got a 1982 honda ATC 185-S for free. everything is fine exept a leaky tire and it won't start. it has compression, an ok spark(could be better, but it should run), and i just cleaned the carb. i've tried starting fluid but without luck. if i pull it, it wants to start but won't. i've cleaned the air filter and replaced the fuel line. also, what is the gearing on it(ie:1 down 4 up)?

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M DOING!!!!

Gearing on my 83 is 5 down, yours is probably the same. Have you taken the line off the carb to make sure the gas is getting to the carb? Sometimes the on/off switch can get messed up.

I bought one new in '81. Back then there was a kit for adding rear suspension. You cut the rear of the frame off and bolted on a swing arm and rear shock. Since the original exhaust came out where the shock was, the kit had an aftermarket exhaust. Believe it or not it only took me about two hours to do the mod. Would have been less but I was scared to cut the frame and I kept rereading the instructions. Best mod I've ever done then or now.

I know this is off the subject of your question but your post just brought back great memories.

As for the carb adjustment I seem to remember that it had screws just like most motorcycle carbs but I could be wrong.....I have had a couple blows to the head in the last few years.;0)

Whatever, yamahagye

I've had two of my friends follow me with their trucks( a stock s-10 and a lowrider s-10) both of them said it just barely hit 55. If you don't beleive me - who cares. I know it hit 55, at least two of my friends know it hit 55. I'm not trying to start a fight out here. Me and my friend picked this thing up off a kid FOR FREE! We have no idea what he did to it.

I can even send you a pic if you want to see what kind of shape this piece of crap is in.
