Default Honda TRX250 Hill Climbing Question

Hello to all, Im new to the forum and new to ATV's in general. Im looking for something that can get me up and down a 100 yard hill that has a max steepness of ~35% or ~20 degrees. Dont need to go fast, doesnt need to be fancy, just reliable. Im looking at a used 2006 TRX250 that looks like its been well maintained and in good shape. My question, do you think it has enough engine to get my 230 pounds up and down that hill consistently, or do I need to look elsewhere?

A 250 should be OK, it partly depends on the surface, wet mud would be more difficult than smooth asphalt. Having manual gears, it would climb steeper than that in bottom gear, in fact, I am trying to envisage exactly what 20 degrees looks like and I guess my "test hill" is about that. I check that every bike will haul my 230 pounds up that hill, in third gear, to check the clutch isn't slipping, when I service them.

In what gear are you riding usually?

As with any manual gearbox vehicle, you use a gear which is comfortable for the engine. Uphill, a lower gear, fast road work, top gear. If you are going slowly on rough terrain, again a gear that is not revving the engine hard for the speed you want.
