Default 2006 Honda 350 shifting

I have a Honda 2006 rancher 350, it like many others will not shift with electric shifter. But mine will shift with the emergency/manual shifter. I can hear it shift and green neutral light goes out. But it will not move when manually shifted into first. It makes no effort at all. It is a little hard to get it to shift manually. Any ideas as to the problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

The clutch and gearshift are both operated by the shift motor or foot lever. When you move a normal foot change lever, it springs back after you have done the change. this should happen with the emergency shifter, though it is a bit slower, due to also having to spin the motor through a reduction gearbox. If the lever doesn't move back, there is a problem, either the shift motor seizing, take the motor off and see what happens, or the pin for the hair pin spring, which makes it spring back, has failed. Although I have not had this on a 350, I have had it on 300s and on the current 420 Auto, which still uses the same pin. More common on 350s is the shift mechanism cracked or broken inside the clutch cover, or the star wheel on the end of the shift drum come loose. One weird fault I have had on two different 350s was the rod that the selector forks slide on, breaks through the inner crankcase into the clutch housing, pokes into it, and the forks jam. All these faults, apart from a seizing shift motor, require the clutch cover removing, and careful inspection of the mechanism.
