I went to the sand dunes for the very first time today and right before we were fixing to leave me and my friends started racing each other. They had 85 warrior and 99 400ex. And before we knew it there was about 20 people wanting to race also. So about 3 at a time lined up. There was 3 blasters, 2 warriors, 1 banshee, 3 400ex's, 1 DS 650, and 2 raptors and me w/ my 500 4x4. We were all racing on loose dirt, so i had a big advantage with my 4x4. I had no problem w/ the warriors and blasters. But then a raptor and a 400ex pulled up beside me. I figured i would get blown away but that wasn't the way that it happened. We were racing about 100 yeards. I got both of them 3 to 4 lengths right off the start! Which surprised me and both of them. The 400 caught up and passed me by about 1 lenght. And your probably not goin to believe this, but we both smoked the Raptor! I think the only way that we beat him is because he weighed about 260 or so. So then there was the other raptor and guy on it weighed about 170. He didn't have much of a problem beat me. Both raptor's were stock. Then the banshee pulls up. I raced him too. And once again got him off the start about 2-3 lengths. And well you probably know what happened after that. He flew past me and beat me by about 9 lengths. The DS had no problem w/ either of the raptors. He could be them easily so then he goes and gets his girlfriend i guess. And she's got to weigh 230 easy. And he still beats them. The banchee is the only one that gave the DS a race. And when they raced it really depened on who got the start. I don't really know what that guy had on the banchee but it would fly. I just thought i would let all the honda's and yamaha fans know that i know from personal experience that my 500 4x4 will get anything that i put it up against off the line easily. I'm not saying that it's fast, i'm just saying that it starts off very fast because of the automatic transmission i guess, and i'm sure the 4x4 helps a lot too.
Just thought i would share my story with you. I was very proud of my Scrambler, i didn't think it would do as good as it did.
Any of you 500 owners i would like to know what you can do to make it have more mid range and top end. Thanks.
