What kind of mileage are 500 autoCat owners getting. A friend of mine says he is only getting 40 to 50 miles before reserve.

That is about what i am getting on mine. I guess that is the price you have to pay for all the torque that you get with it

One thing I've found on my 500 manual is that the gas gauge is very inaccurate. I can run it to empty on the gauge but never have to turn the reserve switch for another 35-40 miles for a total of about 75-95 miles on a tank. Heavy duty mud riding is another story. 50 miles max in heavy mud and low gears with lots of revs. I can't imagine anything with a small gas tank these days with the power quads are putting out.

I get around 35 mi. before I have to go to reserve. Have got 72 mi. to one tank and still had some left. Most is on trail and in 4x4 with a little 2x4 along the way.

I get about 65 miles to the tank before switching to reserve. This is trail riding in the mountains or out across the desert. It doesn't seem to make any difference. I have yet to run it out completely, but I think I would get in the 80-90 mile range from full to empty.

This is pure spectulation on my part, but it may even be more. I haven't rechecked it since I went to a one size smaller main jet to help eliminate the backfiring. The backfiring is mostly gone and maybe the miledge has gone up.

If all of these machines go onto reserve with differing amounts of fuel in the tank, how can you determine what mileage you are getting without zeroing the odometer and doing a complete fillup?

It appears that they get less mileage than the HO or the Rubicon

My 99 manual gets about the same as Minehunters ride does. About 60-65 and its heading for reserve.

I found that my 99 has a huge reserve of 2 gallons, thats almost half the tank is the reserve. I think that cat does pretty good with fuel.

Yes your right on the gas gauge. AC is using new ones in the 02' models and the new ones will fit in the old gauges.
Thanks
