Weird Sounds on first ride.
#1
I went for my first ride Saturday. on the way back I noticed a low growling sound coming from the rear end. It kind of sounded like off road tires on pavement. I checked the rear diff and it seemed full. I also made sure there wasn't anything rubbing and I couldn't see anything. Is this normal for a new machine or should I be taking my machine back to the dealer for him to lok into?

I believe, what you heard were just the rear gears meshing. Because this is a new unit there may be a little noise until the gears wear together. Others have commented on this same thing and to date I don't believe anyone has had a problem. You also have 6 months of warrenty and if anything is going to happen to your rearend, it won't take 6 months.
Ride it and Have fun..

Mine did the same thing new. Gears have to be heat cycled a few times to break them in and get them wearing properly. You also have a constant mesh tranny so there is some gear whine when you coast or accelerate/decelereate. I sounds fine after a while.

Thanks for all the information. I was a little concerned because I didn't remember hearing it when I first left the truck. Of course I could have been too excited about getting on the trail with the new quad.
Although, I was trying to pay attention to all the sounds to make sure I didn't hear anything that seemed unusual to me.
The new quad only has 27 miles on it now so I will do some more riding to get it broke in better and hopefully the sound will disappear.
