Need a new gas tank.....suggestions?
#1
After a short ride at a local MX track last night. I discovered a rather large hole in my gas tank. A large enough hole to drain the entire tank in only a couple of minutes.
I've been paging through all of my parts catalogs and surfing the net and have only come up with two possible aftermarket replacements. IMS and Clark. I'm looking for some opinions from owner's of these two products. Or if there are any other choices out there that I am missing.
I race both MX and XC, and would like to get the larger XC tank for extended runs. But I don't want to look like a **** at the MX track running a huge XC tank. I don't want to buy 2 tanks either. Boy am I picky.....LOL!
Thanks for the help.

Hey Chris...
We run the IMS tanks, and they work great. You cannot tell that it is there without a trained eye. The IMS fits under all of your existing plastic like the stock one, but does make it bulge out at the sides. In short terms, it is not like a 250R or 400EX were you can see it visably.

Hey Rick, thanks for the friendly advice. How is the GNCC going for you and Traci this year?
I like what I'm hearing about the IMS tank. Extra fuel without the "ugly" looks. I just can't get over the price. About $200 bucks for a plastic tank. What is this world coming too....?

I picked up a used one on the classifieds along with a Maier tank cover and gas cap gasket from NAC's. I paid $35 for a used tank to my door and about $30 for the cover and gasket. Of course this was for my R and your tank is probabaly different.

True, but you pay $200.00 plus for 4 tires that last 4 races.. $100.00 for chain & sprockets that may last a season...
The tank should outlast your quad. Just another was to look at it.
With your 330 & 400EX carb, after 2 hours of racing you should be close to hitting reserve with your stock tank. Traci is hitting reserve in 130 minutes with an IMS tank and close to the same engine setup as you. That's a 330 with 400EX carb (160 main jet)

At a "race" pace, my stock 2.2 gallon tank would last about 90 minutes with my riding style, forcing me to make a pit stop during the race. I keep the revs up and do a lot of clutching. So I really waste through the gas.
The IMS 3.2 gallon tank should allow me to go the distance without stopping.
I'm also running a 160 main in a 400EX carb on my 330. The combination works well. Surprisingly, my quad keeps up with 440EX's and big bore R's. Long 5th gear straits become a problem, but the 330's torquey midrange power really fly's in the woods.
When you put all of the costs of racing into prospective. $200 bucks for a gas tank doesn't sound all that bad. I must be cheap or something.....LOL.
