I was thining of buying a 250r. Do you think it's worth it? I could get it cheaper than a new banshee, but its also older and would have more problems.

The 250r is the best quad ever made! Think about it, its 15 years old and the pros are still racing them. I guess it all depends on how much money you want to spend, and that will determine if your going to have problems. Some advice though, get a 88 or 89 cause the 86's and the 87's have engine problems and I have heard a lot of people complain about the frames also. Also look for someone who hasn't raced their 250, it will make a huge difference. You could also have a company build you a 250(best way to go)cause you get a practicly fresh engine, and the frame is perfect. Try Legacy ATV, they build the best quads. You can look them up in any issue of ATV Sport. If you have a lot of money to spend they can put all the after market parts on your bike before you even get it. Its a pretty sweet deal.

The engines on the 87, 88, and 89 versions are identical and the 86 isn't that much different than the other years. There are also no common engine problems with any of them. My 87 is on its original bore.

The 88 and 89 have some small differences that make the handle and hook up better (the a-arms are 1" forward and the swingarm is 1" shorter) and they do retain their value ever so slightly better than the 86 and 87 models.

Unless all you do is drag race, it is ten times the quad of a Banshee in my and most other peoples opinions. The after market LSR and Laegers Banshee frames are based off of 250R geometry. What does that tell you?

We'll I own One of each and can tell you that fully modified they are identical in speed(fast). My 86 is noticably more stable than my '88 but the '88 is a touch lighter(more aluminum and lighter frame). I would let condition be the deciding factor. If you find a beautiful '86-'87 GET IT. You won't ever be sorry.

Thanks...

I also was wondering about the lt250r. How do they perform(engine, handiling) against a honda? I know of 2 which are for sale, a 86' and 92'.

Engine performance is basicaly the same, but the TRX250R handles MUCH better. I'd stick it out for a nice TRX250R. There are a bunch for sale on www.ebay.com
