Have 125 miles on it, had first service, now make metallic engine rap. Sounds like noisy lifters in an automobile. Dealer says nothing to worry about, yet it definatley doesnt sound like any other ho or magnum.......

What can I do?

Grizzjeeper, if that was my quad, I would get something in writing from the dealer so that you are protected if there is something wrong that doesn't show up until the warranty is off. He should be able to give a logical explanation of what the noise is. Since it is under warranty, why not get another dealer's opinion?

Depends how loud it is. Id definitely get the dealers diagnosis in writing.

Just FYI, there will be an audible ticking sound from pistion slap. Just the nature of the beast.

grizzjeep,
if you don't think it sounds right and your dealer says not to worry, then i'd try a different dealer!

I would check the buttons in the front clutch , they may be lose . They will generally make racket only at idle when loose . Does this diagnosis match the symptom ?

This is the same question I have posted in other forums. I have checked and rechecked the valve clearances. It is coming from somewhere on the recoil side of the engine and sounds like it is a vavle ticking.

My 2001 scrambler 500 2x4 is also makeing the {lifter tick noise}. I checked mine today with a stethoscope {real cool amplified rig}and have narrowed it down to the starter. A friend of mine, who has several polaris', said his sportsman 500ho had that tick. he found the bushing in the recoil case,on the end of the starter shaft, was wore and he had to do a little machine work and oversize the bushing o.d.[it had eat into the aluminum case apparently].anyway... i'm gonna check mine tommorrow ,, i'll let you know what i find!
