I guess the title says it all. Might be a stupid question but I've never seen them race so I'm curious. There's a guy on my end of town who thinks he has the baddest quad around and I'm going to race him though a woods and do a coupple drag races to put him in his place. I know in the woods I can kill him but what about the drag races, will I even be able to keep up since his has a CVT transmition? So far all I have done to the engine is a UNI air filter and different gearing. All my other mods are chassis mods to improve handling.

i'm going to say you will win in the woods.

Dragging..he will have 2 quad lenghts on you.

I've never raced a 500, but have rode them around. They are faster, but won't handle nearly as good.

Just ride as hard as you can and you will be all over him.

if you were stock, he would beat you pretty badly

but..... since you have "to many to list" it should be a lot closer unless......he does too

We have both machines, the scrambler smears the 250X. It will have a two bikes length lead in the first 15 feet. It only gets worse after that. Good luck.

There will be no comparison the 500 will eat you alive in every aspect, unless he cannot drive it. He has way more power, way better suspension. unless you are a way better driver than him expect to be badly embarrased. In a drag it won't even be close. in the woods his superior power and suspension and ground clearance will give the 500 a HUGE advantage, that will be hard to overcome. Not sure why you think you have any chance in the woods? I am not trying to sound like a jerk but come on? a 250 vs. a 500? Like I say unless you are a much better driver in the woods you will loose and a monkey could beat a 250X in a drag with a 500 Scrambler.

I know my 250 would win in the woods. I couldnt race the guy yesterday because he had to work all day. The 250R, 400EX, and 250X/300EX all have very similar frame geometry. This is why these quads have such good handling. In the woods you dont need power if you have superior handling. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Actually you do need power. By you saying that, a Honda 90 will beat a Polaris 500. Right? WRONG! A Honda 90 is a great handling ATV. BUT it doesn't have enought power to beat a 500 in the woods...or anywhere else. My point, you need power BUT you need good handling to be able to use the power.

I would suggest to the owner of the Scrambler 500 to pick on someone his own size....

My friend has a scrambler 500 and we raced across a field. I started off in second and got a pretty good start. He pulled me off the start but I bet I could have could have caught him if the field was longer. I bet he only beat me by about half a quad length. I have a 300ex but it shouldn't be a whole lot different.
