i have a 98 honda 300ex with stock tires! i ride trails-mud-creeks-snow so i encounter everything! the stock tires have preformed pretty good and i am overall happy with them! they are starting to get worn down and need to be replaced! the size of them is 22-10-9! i was looking through dirtwheels magazine to find some tires! i like the blackwaters and the maxxis sur trak and the maxxis all trax and the itp spidertrack! i was wondering if different sizes matter on my fourwheeler and what the best combination is on the sizes and what you guys prefer for tires!
thanks and any info you can provide will help me decide!
thanks
Rob

The first number is the diameter of the tire, the second is the width of the tire and the third is the diameter of the rim.

You probably already know that the new tire has to be the same size as the rim. And most folks go with a tire height (diameter) that is also the same as the stock tires. You can always go with a more narrow tire, however check to make sure you have enough clearance under the fenders for a larger tire width.

As for performance, all the tires you mention are known to do well in both mud and sand.

You can't expect many replies when you didn't tell us the most important factor; What kind of riding you do. Here in northern Ohio, it can get pretty sloshy after a week of straight rain (like this week, for example), and I run 22x10-9 sur-traks mounted on douglas .190 aluminum rims for all of my quads. They are a nice, lightweight trail tire, that will slide sideways if you want, and still get you through the nasty mud.

I just got Maxxis Razrs for my 300ex in 22x11x9, 6 ply. I haven't got them mounted yet, so I can't tell you how they work, but a lot of people on this forum recommend them highly. They are the same tire I'm putting on my Raptor that every one is recommending. I wanted a 6 ply so I don't take a chance on ruining a trip with as many flats. I also figure that if I use the same tires on both quads, I can get away with one spare front and one spare rear tire for both.

Unless you are planning on changing the gearing, I'd stick with the stock size. I have had Spider Tracs and they work really well. My friend had Realitors and they also perform great, to say the least. I currently have a set of 20x11x9 Trail Claw IIs on my 87 R and they hook up good and arent to aggresive.

I put a set of ITP holeshots on the rear and Fast Trekkers on the front. Sizes were stock and I love mine. I ride mainly the same terrain and have never had a problem. It was a good change over for me.

Thanks Springdrl

I was going to post a question just now asking that. Cool that it was already asked.
