On my 400ex my exhaust pipes are blue after they exit the engine through the first bend. Is this normal or do I have a overheating problem?

Thanks

Mine have always been like that too.

Someone mentioned that blue-tinted pipes means you're running lean, and therefore hotter than you should be, but I have no idea if this is true or not....so I have assumed it is normal for 400EX's.

you better check your plug for a reading!!!!!!
or put a new one in it to get a correct reading.
you might be running to lean!

Pipes should be a golden brown color not blue or black if your pipes are turning blue it mean they are gettting to hot this could be from a lean or rich condition. Lean - motor is running to hot
Rich- to much fuel and is burning in the headpipe area . My whole
exhuast is a nice golden brown color.

RX,
You say your pipes are brown, But were they blue during breakin period?
Also Can anyone diagnose my plug (Black sooty around the outsides and Light gray/brown in the middle and end)?
thanks

I have 2001 400EX and my head pipes have a blueish tint near the motor as well. The 400 runs extremely lean from the factory. You can bump your main up to a 152 if you are worried about it being to lean. I personally wouldn't worry about it. I think your plug should have a grayish brown color to it if it's jetted right, but I'm not sure about that.
