Anyone have problems with thier Xplorer 400? I am considering replacing my 250 with a new one. Do they wear belts and brakes?

I bought my `98 400 Xplorer about 2 months ago, It still has the stock belt. The brakes are gonna need replaced soon though. A friend of mine has a `00 400 Xplorer and his breaks wear out pretty quick too. You can buy better brake pads though. Lata.

I have a 2000 Xplorer 400. I have had it for just over a year with about 1100 miles put on it. I have not had to replace anything to this point. I am still running on the stock belt and stock brakes, however the brakes are getting close to replacement. The only mods I have added (performance wise)is a green primary spring and a k&n filter. I absolutely love this machine. I have never needed more power than was just under my thumb. Its great in the mud, lots of power for hills, and just enough speed to jump out and pass just about any other utility machine out there. The really nice thing about this machine is it has alot of power to start with and once you get used to it and feel you need more power its just a few mods away. The only reason I have not added a pipe is because I like it quiet and am just afraid that no matter how quiet a aftermarket manufacturer says his pipe is that when I get it I won't like it. If I ran into another Xplorer with a quiet aftermarket pipe I would consider it. In my opinion you can't get another utility machine even close to this one for the same amount of money. All in all a very enjoyable machine.

I have a '01 Xplorer 400. I had to replace the rear brake pads at around 800 miles and the chain around the same time. The chain was under warranty. The stock performance is great and the ride is good. Overall,I'm happy with it.

You can't go wrong with the Xplorer it's the quickest and fastest 4wd out there besides the scrambler 400's. Its under 600lbs so they are a blast to ride fast and throw around. I've got about 1900 miles on my 2000 with no problems. They are alittle hard on brakes if you ride aggressivly but, there are better pads out there.

For 2001 they removed the speedometer and headlight on the bars to reduce the price. The price I talked to a dealer ( a good one) was $5400 for a new 2001 or $5400 for a 2000 demo with about 50 miles on it. I kinda think the 2000 with the odometer and speedo would be the better value. What do you'll think? Is $5400 a good price?

i have a 96 400 xplorer with 3000 miles and the only part replaced was the rear axle bearing which were bad from new. the noise i heard that i thought was the blackwater tires that i installed when the quad was new turned out to be bad rear axle bearings. at 2400 miles the bearing let go.

Is $5400 a good price for a 2000 demo with under 20 mile?

I'd probably go w/the 2000 just to have the speedo and high beam. And if its only got 20 miles on it, its still brand new. Lata.

For 2001 you get easier steering, hardened brake rotors, improved cooling fan with shroud and a lifetime belt warranty.
There are quite a bit of changes between the years. Air box, air filter, fan, radiator, hoses, carb jetting, steering stem with bearing instead of plastic bushing, struts, braided brake lines, master cylinder, and some other things I can't seem to remember.
