Going to rework the old 400sp.

Find a good mechanic, I found one that did the hole rebuild for $450. I took apart every thing but the motor, he took out the motor split the case and rebuilt everything. I don't know how yours ran recently, but mine w/ the rebuild, a new NGK hi-po plug, Uni Filter, and GBC Dirt Devils will pull the front tires off the ground and ride it in high range!, it will sit it on the rear rack in low range! It is other wise stock, but I would like a different silencer, the stock one is heavy, and untill I changed to the new 8x10 modular wheels from ITP, the tires rubber on the silencer(the new wheels move the tires out a couple of inches, lining up with the front). Good luck.

Thanks ingoldx1,seems you have had alot of experance with your sp. mine has lost some power over the years but I thought at only 1400 miles it would not need motor work, guess I was wrong.I think I'm going to restore it to while its apart(paint all the racks and any other parts I can,and fix all connections and bolts and nuts, also I guess I need to replace the bearings).Man Ill have this thing apart for a while,oh well maybe it'll be right. Thanks for replying.

I have spent a lot of time on my 95', both riding and repairing for time to time. I bought mine from a farmer, I got a steal. I paid $2300 for it, but I have close to $3500 in it now, inluding a used two place trailer. I would have some sugestions for you:
Check out the rear axle bearings, mine wore out.
Check all of the brakes, mine were fine but as they wore they wore out faster.
Check and upgrade the filter, the aftermarket filters seem to provide more power.
I put a $7 NGK plug, it has a finer wire for less fowling and more power.
Check the rear chain, mine was worn out, the sprockets too. The two front were in good shape. if you do change them the trannie end of the rear chain is a pain in the @#%$**.
If you don't have the repair book, buy it. I all of the repairs to my quad, minus the motor, on my patio in back of my house with pretty much common tools, minus the snap ring pliers for the sprockets.
Good Luck!
