Little odd things about the Raptor
#1
Odd things I have found:
A: You can accidently leave the key on for 5 days, as long as your not in neutral and the lights are off the quad will still start right up. (Opps, I've rode keyless 2 stokes for 10 years)
B: There is a TRUE speed sensor on the back of the trans, I would look for a company to release a speedo that hooks directly into this at some point.
C: An aftermarket exhaust and removing the stock airbox restriction makes a HUGE difference. (This was a good thing)
D: It's not near as tippy as it first feels, and its deceptively fast. Watch out for that TREE!
E: Wheelies, oh my, how easy it is on a 4-stroke.
F: A real break light tends to lead to less rear ends on the trail.
G: The tie rods still suck... typical yamaha.
H: With the factory piston and cam, I can't tell the difference between 87 and 93 octane gas. (Nor did I think I would be able to)
I: The factory tires are to small for dirt trail riding. Just not enough ground clearance.
J: I just Love this quad...

Brad, I whole-heartedly agree with points D, E and F. After riding my Raptor and then getting on my cousin's 400EX I feel as though I'm on a small toy bike. That's not a Honda bash, just an observance by me. The brake light is a definite rear-end saver, it's already saved me at least 3 times that I know of. Oh, and the wheelies...

In the new 4-wheel atv action mag, the Raptor is being is commented on as being like a Cadillac with the breathed on north star system. After riding other sport atv's, nothing compares...but 'ya gotta love the Banshee's cool powerband.

I was seriously considering flipping my linkage.. guess I will now.. going to go to a 12t front and a 22inch rear tire also, I need the clearance.
And this should be added to the list:
Z: I wish it had the really really cool power ban of a 420 big bore banhsee with toomey t-5s

As to the wondering about the speed sensor in the trans. Yes that is what it is. I have mine tore apart fixing the trans prob and wondered what that was for also. I found it is a speed sensor for reverse so you cant go over like 10mph in reverse. If you try the engine will cut out. I bet this could easily be used for a speedometer and am curious if this isnt what the bike uses for a speedometer? If it is order up a mz660 speedometer set up and you would be set.

Where does the MX660 speedo plug in? I bet anything into the CDI, but I could be wrong... if it is in the CDI it could be hard to wire, if the wiring is straight to the speed sensor we'd be in business.
I didn't know it was a 10mph limit for reverse, but that makes sense.

I have been reading the discussions on the speed sensor in the output part of the tranny and am glad to see some one else figured out it was there for reverse safety!! If you go hooking a speedo to it I'm sure its going to work but once you start playing with different tires or sprockets it will be way off. I'm sure an Electronic speedo that plugs into that will cost a fare amount and then will read wrong if you mess with gearing. Have you all seen the speedo at rocky mountain ATV, You can order it for the Raptor and the sensor goes on the front wheel so you can still mess with your gearing and not mess up speed readings. I would think this is a better way to go!! JUST MY 2 CENTS WORTH !!!!
