I have a deposit on a '01 AC 400 4x4. My main use is utility, pulling a trailer and pushing snow. I'm a little early but want to make sure I have a plow for it. I have a blade with the mounts but it was for my old stolen Yamaha, God rest it. The manual lift went with the Yamaha. Does anyone know if the blade (cyclecountry) and mounting can be converted over to the AC? If not, any recommendations on a new snow blade and lift system? Thanks.

Jeff

It would probaly be easier just to go ahead and buy a new mounting kit for the cat, but you should be able to convert it depending on the model of Yamaha you had.

What made you get a new cat over all others??

Like Boner said, you'd be better of buying a new mounting kit specifically for the 'Cat. If you have the old pushtubes, they should bolt right up to your old plow, and fit right in with the new mounting kit (as long as you stick with the Cycle Country brand that is). I can't remember now what the mounting kits were going for. Seems like the plow was around $170 or so, then the mounting kit and pushtubes were an additional $150, somewhere in that ballpark. Should you want to just scrap your old setup all together, I'd suggest trying the Moose brand this time around. I think it's an all around heavier blade, better built too. Oh, not sure what you used for the wear bar along the bottom-if you ever wore your's out all the way or not, but if you can get a wear bar from a city snow plow rig, just cut it in half, use the wear bar that came with the plow for your 'Cat and use it as a template. Then drill the corresponding holes into the new wear bar off the city rig. The big rigs use a thicker wear bar, harder material too. I believe it is around a 5/8" thick, instead of 3/8". Once you wear down one side, flip it over to use the other side, and you still have the other half left over in the garage for the next time around. Anyway, just a tip, might save you a few bucks in the long run, who knows.

Best of luck,

Mike

Thanks for the replys. I will call Cycle Country and tell them I have the push rods/blade and what a conversion would cost. The blade has been used just about a dozen times. I have a gravel drive on a steep hill, a ATV plow is the only way to go. In winter, it means the difference between walking up the hill with grocercies and driving up. Still need a 4wd vehicle but even 4wd won't go up w/o plowing. Very steep. Thanks for the tip Cowboy. I will ask a city garage but I assume you mean get one of their old wear bars? They probably won't give up a new one unless I knew one of them. I was looking at Hondas at a dealer and they had a Moose plow on one. It did look better built. My plow did a good job but I babied it because I knew if I overstressed it, the thing would break. I am not impressed with Cycle Country plows. They may have redesigned them since 1998.

Boner I decided to get the AC after spending some hours on here and talking back and forth with people who owned them. Then I rode one! The comparison between it and my '98 Big Bear was a no contest. Even beats the new Yamaha I think. Feature for feature and $ fur $, the ACs have it. The downside is the lack of aftermarket stuff for it, i.e. oil filters at the dealer are $14! Since it's a Suzuki engine, hopefully I can find one aftermarket for a Suzuki that will work. If I ever sell the ATV, not many around here have AC. I think others have said the same thing in other parts of the US. That will probably change. Since I want it for utility use on the 'farmette' (15 acres), I don't plan on selling it. We rode AC sleds in northern Wisconsin when I was a teenager (70's). They were the best so figure after a few years of making ATVs, they have made their mods. After all this, Cowboy emailed me with a big explanation of what he does with his. I made a deposit on it a few days later, that convinced me!

I'm glad you were able to test ride one, I knew the ride itself would sell the machine. Hey, don't sweat the price of the AC filter though-a few guys on here know aftermarket filter numbers that cross-reference exactly with the 'Cat filter, and only cost around $4-5.00 if I remember right. I believe Fram makes one, as well as a few other companies. Somebody made a list once quite some time ago, seems there were at least 3-4 other filters that would fit, for considerably cheaper. One question though-was that the dealer price to normal customers??? My dealer gives them to me for cost, which is around $7.?? each, so for me, I don't even bother with the aftermarket ones. If I had to pay $14 each, I'd definately be going with the fram!

Anyway, Best of Luck with the new machine, and plow setup!

The Fram part number is Ph6018, have your local walmart order you some.

You might also want to try out the CR8E NGK spark plug, a few of us have notice quite a difference from installing these spark plugs.

ON your 400, you also might want to play with the Idle mixture screw and back it down alittle. A few 400 owners have noticed a noticeable amount of power incease by doing this in the past.

Will that oil filter work with the 2001 cats? I thought some you tried and they changed the thread pitch or diameter so the frams and others wouldn't fit. has anyone put it on their 01 cats?

Hi, would that Fram number work on my 2001 500 manual? Since the block on the 400 and 500 are the same I'm figuring that the oil filter is the same. Correct?

I don't know about the 2001 but it works on the 2000 models Suziki 500 as well as the AC 400/500

Cheers Jim

Wish I had good news for you guys but I don't. My 01 500 manual and 01 400 cats won't take the Fram or any other cross referenced filter. I tried all of them from wix to purolator and the thread pitch is different. TEXASCAT tried too and had no luck. It does work on the 2000 models though according to everyone else on here.
