Went to Allegheny National Forest last week and was told there new weight limit on 4 wheelers is 600 lbs or less, so if your over 600lbs you can not ride the trails. why does this thing say trailblazer under my user?

 

are they doing anything to check the weight of your atv or just relying on the honor system?

2. Is this for the entire State of Pennsylvania?

3. Is this only for the Allegheny National Forest?

4. Were signs prominently posted?

5. Can this weight limit be verified?

700 lbs. are described in the Pennsylvania definition of an ATV.

 

Maxdad, try this link. It is the PA DCNR and as far as I know its the laws for the entire state of PA. It says that the max weight is 700 lbs. http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/atv/atvtit.htm

In PA. a class 1 atv is a quad or trike 600 lbs and under. A class 2 is mainly the 6x6's to 700 lbs. These laws were written in the mid- 80's. How many 600 lbs+ quads existed then? The laws were never updated.
PA. doesn't have a problem taking your registration money for a class 1 atv over 600 lbs. dry weight, I've had 2 of them. My son used to have an Honda Odyssey. The rangers in Marienville told me that it cannot be ridden on the class 1 (Marienville ATV) trails and it could not be on the class 2 trails(Timberline) because it was neither a class 1 or 2. Pa. only has 2 classes. It was registered as a class 1. It wasn't a class 1, because the driver didn't straddle the seat and not a class 2 because it didn't have a bench seat, according to the rangers.

All all-terrain vehicles (ATV's) used in Pennsylvania, except those used exclusively on the property of the owner of the ATV, must be registered with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources' Snowmobile/ATV Unit. The ATV registration fee is NOT a user fee for the privilege of using ATV trails on state owned land.

All-Terrain Vehicles are defined as follows:

Class I ATV - A motorized off-highway vehicle, 50 inches or less in width, having a dry weight of 600 pounds or less and traveling on three or more low pressure tires (10 pounds per square inch or less) with a seat designed to be straddled by the operator.

Class II ATV - A motorized off- highway vehicle, 58 inches or less in width, having a dry weight of 700 pounds or less, traveling on four or more low-profile tires (10 pounds per square inch or less) and having a bench seat
