Last week I made a post about cutting off the end of the air intake to open it up (stock it's about the size of a quarter!!). I am running a MegaMax II pipe and K&N filter and with the intake opened up, the carburator COULD NOT be compensated enough to take on the added air. I had the dealer fool with it, and I know the mechanic well and he is a darn good jetter who I trust.

If you are running a stock pipe and/or a stock filter (the insert in the stock filter is VERY restrictive), this mod is probably OK. I would say this would be the equivalent of removing your airbox lid. This is actually good for these folks because they can leave their airbox waterproof and still get the benefits. But with a K&N and aftermarket pipe, it was JUST TO MUCH and I had to go back to the stock air intake!!

I took the stock snorkel completely off and made a custom one out of 1 1/2 inch pipe which has its' intake under the handlebars. With a KN filter and IDS2 pipe with all 12 discs, I am running a Dynojet #100 main, and the bike really runs well with a nice burning plug. I was running a #98 main with the stock snorkel. If I configured the snorkel for maximum air induction, as opposed to prevention of water ingress (the way it is now), I would definitely need to go to a 102 or 104

What?! I have a Supertrapp and a Uni filter on my Recon. After I cut the end off the intake I went to a 110 main and it runs great.

Are you using Honda jets or Dynojet jets?

Do you guys ever ride in water? Even with the stock snorkle ( small hole) water came in quickly when riding in shallow water. I would think it would be worse with the end cut off.

Remember, with the bends needed to raise my snorkle height, obviously some air restriction will occur. Perhaps that's why a smaller main works for me.
