While out riding Sunday I started smelling something unusual. I have been reading about Warn winch solenoids having some sort of problem so I decided to stop and look. No problem at the solenoid but I look under the "hood" and smoke is pouring out of the fan, wires are melting. I unplugged the melted connector going to the fan and tried to start the ATV and get it to the truck but nothing worked. I assumed the breaker had "tripped" to prevent further damage but after getting home and troubleshooting the problem, the breaker WAS NOT TRIPPED. The ignition switch had melted instead.

Why does Polaris even bother putting a breaker on the bike if its not going to do its job?

Pfelect,

I have had the same thing happen on my bike. The problem is that the breaker is an auto reset breaker. These just reset themselves and keep burning everything that is connected inline.
