I bought my sportsman 500 in November and have 600 miles on it and have been through three belts. the belts are not tearing up but just wearing to the point that the machine creeps foword while at idle and in gear. I took the driven pully off and installed the shims on advice from a friend. this worked only for a couple of rides about 75 miles then it starts crawling again.Any Help would be much appreaciated.

Polaris said they had a bad batch of belts. They were not cut right, they would NOT fall all they way down on the primary clutch meaning they never went out of gear. They are replacing my. I had the same problem.

When aligning your pulleys an alignment tool must be used. Polaris sells this tool but I don't know what the $ are.

use a 3211077 belt. It will fix it. That is a scrambler belt if you know someone who has an old one laying around. My buddy had the same problem, we tried my old scrambler belt on it and it worked perfect. So he went and bought a new one.

I have seen this before.

Since your atv is recently out of warranty but this was a pre-existing problem I believe that you should contact Polaris directly. It sounds like you have a belt alignment problem and a possibly a primary clutch problem. I know of at least three riders with early HO's that had their clutches replaced for creeping.

The bad news is that once the creep is eliminated you might get too high of an engagement point and the quad will lurch forward with a clunk after using reverse. It is annoying but totally functional.

Sounds like your local technician has neither tried alignment or the clutch tuning, too bad. Hang in there!

You are experiencing an engine transmission alignment problem. The engine mounts have to be loosened and the motor lined up with the transmission. Polaris has a tool which is used for the proper alignment. Cost about thirty dollars. In the mean time do the following: Install

PN 7556401

Wahoooooooooooo!

I installed 2 of these washers with the worn current washer behind the secondary clutch and the clutch creep is a thing of the past!!! I tried just one washer and the belt was still catching the inside sheave of the primary, added another and voila!!!

Try it, you'll be happy with the results.

Depending on the degree of misalignment with the engine and transmission this may be a temporary cure. As you have found. The more misaligned the engine is the faster the washers will wear
