I'm looking at buying a wiseco 10.25/1 piston for my 300 4x4, a 40B or 459 cam, and am thinking about having the head ported and polished for low end power. But i don't know which cam to get. I need lots of low end to spin my 26 in vamps in the mud and towing. I've already got a high lifter performance kit, but it's not quite enough. So which cam is better for me? I want bottem end power, but i don't want to stress the engine so it wears out quicker.

Hey,

I know I've kinda given my opinion already but I'll compare the two cams for ya. The 40b gives mid to high rpm power. High rpms are not good for an engine. With 40b, you will have to hit mud holes with the rpms up and keep them up. Because of it's lack of low end power if you stop and you are in real deep thick stuff, you might not be able to get going again very good. With the 459, it is all low rpm power. You will not have as fast a 300 with the 459 as with the 40b but it will spin your vamps in probably 1-3rd gears. I'll be able to test out my 300 next week with 26x9.5 vamps all around, the 355 big bore kit, and the 459 cam. I'll let you know how well I can spin them. A guy with the same cam and bore kit I have runs 28x12.5 outlaws if that tells you anything. And another runs 26x12 outlaws all around and can spin them in third gear. Pretty impressive huh? Go with the 459.

What about the stress the 459 cam will put on my engine? What will happen, and how quick will it cause premature wear on engine parts?

Well they say that the 40b cam will last longer, but you cannot beat the 459 for the superb low end power. How often will you be riding this 300. I do not know how hard you ride either. Jeff from highlifter said he never had problems out of either of the cams but he also said he never sunk his bike either. I know that The_Rustler and Honda377 have been riding hard on their 300's and are both very good riders. You really should go to www.highlifter.com and join the forums then post this same question, you will get alot more answers.

How wide are your vamps?
