Broke my Recon's Wheel
#1
Today I was on a very rocky trail in Colorado (on my 2001 Recon) and apparently I hit a rock with my Left Rear Wheel. I was cruising down the trail about 20 mph and noticed my tire had gone flat, upon closer inspection I found a HUGE dent in the wheel (enough to crack the wheel). I had been going very slow over the bigger rocks, but these trails are almost all rocks so you are constantly hitting some. Does anyone know what brand or type of wheels are the most durable? Should I just get a wheel and tire set? Where is a good place to buy them? I think it would be a waste of my money to buy the OEM Honda wheel for a replacement. The trails in Colorado are very rough on wheels and tires, lock of rock crawling and generally rough terrain. Thanks for any suggestions

Go to www.rockymountainatv.com they have very good prices on tire and wheel kits. Get the Douglas 190 along with some tires. It will be a lot cheaper.

goto Rocky Mountain ATV. www.rockymountainatv.com (Duh)
The stock wheels on the RECON SUCK!!! (atleast in 1997) they are crappy steel and I've dented mine a bit too. My tires are pretty worn too so I may pass up more expensive mods to the 300ex, with more smaller mods and updates to both quads.
Get new rear tires on Douglas .190 aluminum wheels. You pretty much need the aluminum wheels. Should get tires too. The tire you choose is up to you. I've heard blackwaters and titans are very good. You're stock tire size is 22x10x9. Try to get your tires near that size.

<< I tell you what youneed to dowith that Recon, take it to the local junkyard. And sell it to them. Because that's all it is, is a piece of junk. And go and buy yourself something like Rancher. A real Machine.... >>
Funny....go back to the rock you crawled out from under of.

I went with the Maxxis Sur Tracks on ITP aluminum wheels
I think the Sur Tracks are 22x11x9 which is one inch wider than the stock tires. They fit fine no mods to the plastic had to be made.
I would not go any larger than a 23" height for the Recon they may rub.
I live in Ontario and ride a lot on the Canadian Shield, which is
a lot of rock. The Maxxis Sur tracks work great on the rocks and mud.
I bought a UNI air filter to compensate for the power lost from switching to a more aggressive tire.
I have also herd that the Mudsharks are good for rocks they come in a 23" size. You will have to buy different rims for sure though the width and bell are not the same as stock.
I hope this helps
