Problem found on the Magnum 500
#1
I have found a problem concerning the 99 Polaris Magnum 500. People have said that it may be the most trouble free Polaris ever built... at least until now. The 99 Polaris Magnum 500 IS NOT FIREPROOF! About a week ago, a guy I know had his whole garage burn down, and yep, along with it went a good Mag 500. Sad story, at least he had it insured. Also lost in this unfortunate blaze was a 92 honda 300, a bunch of farm machinery, an 86 Bronco, and a damn nice 98 F350 flatbed with a powerstroke diesel. Big garage, big fire, great way to start off a new millenium huh.

My that is a sad story, he lost his Polaris and his 99 F-350 PSD.

99 Sportsman 500
99 F250 7.3L PSD
94 F250 7.3L turbo diesel
83 F250 6.9L diesel
If the polaris diesel was'nt such a slug, I have one of them too(vs. the SP 500). I guess I'm a true diesel freak.

There's a big difference between "100,000 miles before the first tune-up" and a "100,000 mile warranty". We put a lot of miles on a vehicle, and *just maybe* the warranty will last longer than the payments ... or at least come closer to it.
Also, no full-sized pickup I ever owned with a gas motor ever came close to the miles-per-gallon you get with the diesel. Sure, I've had a "built" 454 Chevy 4wd that had more power ... at about 7 mpg!

No offense taken I just like my DIESEL they aren't that noisey, diesel fuel isn't hard to find most station carry it now. They are very snappy, you would be surprised and there is no 100,000 tune-up.Diesel isn't for everyone but I pull 26ft trailer with 4 snowmobiles and have no problem. We were at LEADVILLE COLORADO 30 below and it started ok.It's one awsome powerful mean looking machine,I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

A couple questions for you diesel owners. Does that 100,000 mile warranty apply to the whole truck or just the engine? And, can you heat the glowplugs for aiding in cold weather starts?

Now ya gonna make me *think* about it huh?
The factory warranty was 100K on the drive train. we got the optional warranty that covers everything (or almost) for 100k.
The Cummins diesel doesn't use glow-plugs, but I forget the technology that it does use. It also comes equipped with an electric (110v) engine heater. Never had any problems starting it.. the "Wait to Start" light stays on longer when it's cold... unless you plug in the engine heater.
FWIW - Mine, and from what I've heard, other '99 quad cabs don't get as good mileage as other Dodge diesels. If anyone can shed some light on this, please let me know. 15 - 16.5 mpg around town and 17 on the highway *is* much better than my old 454 Chevy ... but everybody I talk to with older Cummins diesels typically claim "I never get less than 18 mpg, even pulling a big trailer; and get 22 mpg on the highway" .... I wish
The Kodiak is ok .. for my wife.
She loves it. She thinks my Polaris is too heavy and too hard to steer. I think the Kodiak is too noisy and I don't like the engine vibration. She hasn't ridden it much yet, and I've ridden it even less.
Oh yeah .. like everybody else who rides "other" brands, she thinks *I* go too fast - the Polaris glides over bumps that beat you to death on "lesser" machines
