Is the big gun complete worth the extra money or will a fmf or white brothers do just as well. Basically what is the difference in power.

A few weeks ago I would have agreed with you to a certain extent, Sand45. There early pipes were a leaky, flakey, poor fitting mess. They do[and did] create good power though.

I have spoken with the folks over at Big Gun and was reasured that things have changed. I now have one of there latest generation pipes and can honestly say that it is completly leak free[at least untill I let the nuts vibrate off the mounts, my fault]. They were embarresed by the quality of the early pipes and made sure things are right now. I can say that I've seen and tested much worse than the Big Gun now. I'm happy with this new generation as long as noise is not a concern. When I have to worry about the noise, I slap the Custom X on.

Well I really have no experiance with the big gun but I think that the slip on pipes work very well. The white brothers I have really helped out the bottom and mid range and it was about 150 bucks cheaper than the big gun. Don't forget the K&N that and a pipe really wake up the DS.

I'll give another vote for the WB E-Series. I have really enjoyed that pipe and fit and finish are first rate with no leaks.

I guess I will have to speak for the FMF Powercore Slip-on probably not the most popular pipe on the forum but I can honestly say I am very happy with it an the over all power gain. Combined with jetting and filter the power is available sooner in the bottom end. As for the fit it is first rate no leaks! you have to consider the fact that FMF has produced exhausts and silencers for the motorcycle and atv industry for years with the background and experience and the success of the FMF lineup I did not think they would cut corners and they sure didn't for this pipe. The finish is great ceramic coated pipe with aluminum canister and stainless endcap when I got mine I polished the muffler section with a polishing wheel and metal polishing compound to a mirror finish. As for looks this pipe has the perfect look for the DS it angles up, does not extend past the grab bar and complements the body lines and shape of the DS, personally I think its one of the best looking pipes on a DS (of course a matter of opinion!)now for sound I think most will consider it a bit loud I have not had it sound tested but c'mon its a 650 do you really want it to sound like 300ex? (no offense to anyone I have a 300ex too..)anyway this is just info and a view from an FMF owners perspective good luck with your choice I'm sure the choice you make wil be the right one for you! Hey i have a question. With just a PIPE not a silencer, how much power increase should you expect? How is the feel in comparison to stock pipe. I"m tlaking only pipe, not silencer. I have an endcap which improves the stock silencer just as much as a white bro's or big gun.. so i'm looking into a pipe. Any help would be appreciated

I am a proud owner of a 2001 ds650. i had a 400ex before this. One thing that i noticed early was that the ds was lacking low end power for a big 650 motor. I know its heavy and all, but it wasnt easy to make slow front end hops over logs and other things in the trails. Dont get me wrong the ds is fast as hell. But it really gets moving before the front end starts coming up. Well, i installed a new Alba Racing Pipe Kit, which includes everything from the header to the silencer. Also included is, k&n filter, outerwear, and jet kit. It now has more ***** than i could imagine. The low and mid power range has increased so much, i thought my clutch was slipping, then only to realize i had removed large patches of grass off my lawn. Alba claims that the pipe kits adds 10hp at low to mid rpms, and 2 hp on top. trust me, it really does. And it sounds reaaaaal mean. Well worth the $414 shipped to my house. Hell thats cheap compared to everything else. It will stand up the front end in 3rd gear, if u can get the traction. Also i am not sure of the jet that i installed. i think it was either a 165, 167, or 175.
